Parental Partnership: Uniform Dress Code
Personal Hygiene
The personal grooming of each student should be in accord with the standards set by the uniform dress code. Students should be clean and neat when at school.
All Students:
· White, navy and hunter green shirts with collars including full turtleneck, long or short sleeves. Styles can include polo type, or button-down oxford. Clingy material (spandex) or tight fitting, sheet or see-through shirts may not be worn. Students may not cut off the buttons. In addition, students in the 5th-8th grades only may wear burgundy shirts following the above guidelines.
· T-shirts worn underneath the uniform shirt must be white in color without any printing or large logos on them that can be seen through the uniform shirt.
· All shirts will remain buttoned except for the top collar button. Shirts will remain tucked in at all times. Over shirts may not be worn. Sweaters, vests, and non-hooded fleece jackets/vests will be solid navy blue, white, or hunter green. They may be in crew neck, v-neck, or cardigan styles. Staff will determine the necessity of wearing the sweater, vest or fleece during the day, dependent on temperature conditions. Jackets or coats may not be worn in the classroom.
· All pants must be plain, dress type pants with or without pleats in the front. No hip-hugger style pants. No carpenter, cargo or jean style pants permitted. Colors must be solid navy, black or khaki. Excessively baggy, tight or ripped/torn clothing is not permitted.
· Belts must be a solid black, brown, or navy blue and are required on clothing that has belt loops. Students may not cut off the belt loops. Belts with fringe, beads, studs, or multi o-rings are not allowed.
· Capri type pants are not permitted.
· Pockets, carpenter loops and slits are not allowed on the sides of pants/shorts/skirts.
· Shorts/skorts should be within two inches above the kneecap and no more than one inch below the kneecap. No baggy or oversized shorts permitted.
· Socks and tights must be a solid color in white, navy, brown or black.
· Hats of any kind are not permitted. Winter hats only to be worn outside at recess.
· Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair may not be colored, dyed, highlighted or streaked in any way.
· Extreme haircuts (designs carved in the scalp, shaving the head) and/or wearing the hairstyle in such a manner as to disrupt the learning process will not be permitted.
· For hairstyles containing braids: beads should be minimized and may not cause a distraction to other students. The beads need to be in a neutral color of white, black or clear.
· Girls wearing hair bands or headbands must be in uniform solid colors. No prints, stripes, sparkles, etc.
· Hair length for boys will not extend beyond the collar or past the top of the ears. No full-grown facial hair permitted (beards, goatees, or patch). Students will be suspended, out of school, receiving zero credit, until the violation is corrected.
· Wearing, carrying or displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs or symbols of gang membership is prohibited.
· Brown or black loafer type or casual dress or an athletic shoe may be a solid color or have two or three neutral colors; Athletic shoes must not have logos, characters or flashing lights on them. No bright colored gym shoes are allowed. Shoes must be properly laced or strapped. Heely wheels are not allowed. Boots are not permitted except as outerwear. Sandals, with straps, may be worn by young ladies and gentlemen. Heel height must be one inch or lower. All students will need athletic shoes with non-scuff soles in order to participate in physical education.
· Young ladies may wear one set of earrings in the ears only. Earrings cannot be large hoops or dangling types that may get caught on clothing, accidentally pulled or serve as a distraction to others. Young gentlemen may not wear earrings on campus or when engaged in a school-sponsored event off campus. No body/tongue piercing will be worn at school. All necklaces must be worn beneath the shirt; only one necklace may be worn at a time. Excessive jewelry is not permitted.
· Makeup, including nail polish, fake nails and lip-gloss are not permitted.
· Purses/backpacks may not be carried from class to class. These items need to be stored in the student’s locker.
The spirit of the dress code is centered on students being able to place a high value on education, not their appearance. Style and status are not priorities at school. Students and parents are encouraged to find ways of enhancing the self-esteem and individuality of the child beyond appearance. The principal, or the assistant principal makes the final determination as to the appropriateness and spirit of the dress code.
Jean Day Dress Code:
Jeans must be solid blue or black denim. Ripped, saggy, or excessively worn jeans are not permitted. Pockets, carpenter loops, slits, studs, sequins or embroidery are not allowed on jeans. Shirts must be regular school uniform shirts or academic college shirts (t-shirts or sweatshirts) that relate to our college theme. College sport themed shirts or jerseys are not appropriate.
